Q:
If you had to pick, which work have you done that
initially accelerated your career and was it the
piece you originally thought would be the case? And
concerning your previous releases, what is (are)
your favorite album(s) and song(s)? Could you please
kindly explain the reason behind?
Jennifer Searson, Canada - Pedro Abêbora Portugal
A:
Wow big question! My favourite Olive song is
“Trust You” because the lyrics are very
personal, and it was the first of my own songs to be
finished. I still think as a whole the “Extra
Virgin” album is my favourite although when I
listen to it I want to sing them again because I
don’t like my voice on it!
Q:
As your music expresses great emotion and depth of
understanding, what percentage of your musical ideas
would you say end up coming to fruition? Growing up,
what have been the most important musical and
non-musical influences/inspirations for you as a
unique artist?
Kiera, from Wicklow in Ireland - Rick Playfair,
Canada
A:
Being the youngest of a big family has totally
shaped my life and my music. All of my life
experiences, good and bad, have also been an
influence. My first big musical influence was Irish
folk music and that formed my voice. Artists like
Joni Mitchell, Dusty Springfield and Annie Lennox
also influenced me.
Q:
What kind of response to your music would you
consider to be a testament to your success?
Worldwide sales, awards or satisfaction of knowing
that you created a niche of fans that exclusively
like your music?
Paul Smith, Canada
A:
To be totally honest, and not at all phony, without
fans I would have no career, so fans are the most
important. To know that someone has bought your
album and loves listening to it blows all awards and
accolades out of the water! I also love touring so
hope to do that soon also.
Q:
Who performed the back-vocals on the track ‘’The
Woman I Could Be’’? Sounding like Cretu or Jens
to us…
Martyn Woolley, USA - Onur Tezgeldi, Turkey
A:
No it wasn’t Michael or Jens. It was a lovely guy
called Peter Ries who came in for a couple of
days. He also did the backing vocals on “More
Than Ordinary”. He was very funny and
entertaining and did a great job!
Q:
How do you get this special "vibe" before you start
to sing, as that makes your listener enthralled with
your music? Michael said in an interview: "you can
sing as high and powerful as Céline Dion and
as low as Annie Lennox. Your voice is
ethereal, just like you’re floating above the ground
while singing"
Rainer Oktovianus, Jakarta - Indonesia.
A:
To me I think the lyrics are important to getting
the right “vibe”. For each particular song. Also
people’s opinions as to how you are singing helps
choose the right direction. Sometimes you have to
sing loud and strong but other times you have to be
more intimate and quiet.
Q:
From the very first day that Michael heard your
voice in a friend’s car playing the song
‘’Miracle’’, an actual musical miracle secretly
surrounded you and you ended up with the sensational
worldwide project Enigma.
Could you please tell us your experiences and work
routine with a producer who is a "perfectionist
music alchemist" - Michael Cretu? As we know,
Michael traditionally works during the night time in
the silent moments of Ibiza; did you have to change
your daily routines of your life? Or did Michael do
an exception and worked with you during day?
Has he inspired any creative ideas that you would
like to expand upon in the future?
Dishant Pandya, India. - Glynn Bell, United Kingdom
- Stephen Windle, United Kingdom –Jonathan McDowell,
New Zealand - Omid Mortazavi & Arash Mortazavi,
Canada - Helder Fialho, Portugal - Alberto
Pellegrino, Italy - Evgeni S. Mursenkov, Russia. -
Christopher Messick, USA –Ilias Kirimlidis, Greece -
Érico Gonçalves - Brasil
A:
Michael and myself worked very well together because
he and I worked hard on our friendship and
understanding of each other before we even started
to record. It’s true he likes to work through the
night but I’m a nighttime person too. Sometimes it
was difficult because I was tired and Michael knew
we were going to get the right vocal. 99 percent of
the time he was right. You can’t really argue with
someone when they are right. Michael helped me find
new strengths to my voice and influenced me greatly.
It was a pleasure to work with him, it’s good to
work with a perfectionist – That’s why he is so
successful.
Q:
How was your relationship with Sandra during your
recording sessions in Ibiza? Have you been to
Cretu’s restaurant ‘’GOYA?’’ Have you met the
cute little Cretu Jr.’s? And also what do you think
about Sandra’s music?
Fabio Flenda, Italy - Ilias Kirimlidis, Greece -
Onur Tezgeldi, Turkey
(EDITOR'S NOTE: Okay, I asked about the
restaurant and kids, this is my interview after all
:))
A:
Sandra is a beautiful person in every way. I had not
heard her music before I met her, but I admire her
work and music greatly as I have now got to know it
better. I have been to GOYA many times the
food is great. As for the boys they are a fantastic
bundle of energy and fun!
Q:
Simply what do you think about Enigma in
general? Do you or Michael have any plans to expand
the collaboration into the future on the seventh
chapter as you proved to be a great winning team on
the albums The Screen behind the Mirror and
Voyageur?
Mike Adamietz from Belgium - Hamidreza Ashtari -
Iran - Helder Fialho Portugal – Alberto Pellegrino,
Italy -
Érico Gonçalves – Brasil -
Àngel Terrassa, Spain - Justin Phillips, UK -
Antonio Rinato Italy - Omid Mortazavi & Arash
Mortazavi, Canada
A:
Enigma is unique and shows that music has many sides
and that an artist can make his own music and be
satisfied that it is both individual and beautiful
and in a genre of its own. There is no one who makes
music like Michael. As for another collaboration in
the future – I hope so.
Q:
If you had a chance to do the vocals for a different
version of an existing Enigma track that you haven’t
already done which one would that be? For example
would you prefer a track to add vocals for "A
Posteriori"?
Jason Edward Dudley, Canada - Ilias Kirimlidis,
Greece
A:
I think Michael understands which songs suit which
voices. There are songs that I would like to have
sung but I can’t change the past!
Q:
Since this album was produced and finalized around
late 2004 and 2005 have you been working on new
songs/projects since that time? Assuming the answer
is yes; could you please be so kind to give us some
clues? What does the near and middle term future
hold for your fans?
Jovan Roms, Finland - Helder Fialho Portugal
A:
Although I have had my own ideas for songs I haven’t
been working on them. I have actually been doing an
ordinary 9-5 job! Not very glamorous but I have to
pay my mortgage! I’m still doing that job but if the
album is successful I can quit! So keep downloading
and thank you for all your support.
EDITOR'S FINAL NOTE :
Really sad to hear this, Dear Enigmatics, Olive
Fans, everyone please support this great talented
artist, she really deserves it!!! The album is on
