1991 |
By the time "Mea Culpa" ( German CD Virgin 664 040 ) was released it was
already 1991, but the release was a logical continuation to that of
"Sadeness" whose luster had not yet faded. The reason for the
commercial continuity was that the album never left the charts in most countries around the
Globe. In America the album remained in the top 100 for over two years and then lingered
around for much longer and is still strongly in print today, a decade after its release. The singles
provided more of what made the album so timeless as extended versions were basically longer
versions of the album ones. Some singles offered variations that were intended for limited consumption by D.J.'s or devoted
fans such as the "Jazz Mix" and the "Omen Mix" ( German
limited-edition CD Virgin 664 596) of the "Principles of Lust" ( German CD
Virgin 664 391) released on July 1st 1991.
All the mixes furnished on the earlier release of "Mea Culpa", however, remained
faithful to the tempo of the original track while varying on riffs and percussion to create the
colourful "Catholic", "Orthodox" and
"Fading Shades" mixes. Nowadays, it is perceived that the later single-releases
from "MCMXC a.d." are rare; the truth may be that the pressings were in
less numbers as the singles sold less and less.
"The Rivers of Belief" (German CD Virgin 664 672), released with
a breath-taking extended version, remains rather difficult to find even amongst collectors
undoubtedly due to the limited nature of its initial pressing.|

like that, but I don't know. There's definitely less conscious thought than it might seem." |
