1989 |
HUBERT KaH
released "Sound of My Heart" in Germany on
Intercord Records ( CD Blow Up INT 865.500 ), Europe ( UK, France CD on
RCA Records ZD 74138.) RCA was the same label that had released
an early and highly collectible 7" of Sandra's
"Maria Madgalena" in 1985
( RCA PB-40315 ), United States ( Curb Records CRBD-10618 ). And
later - in 1996 - the album was re-issued by
Polydor, the label to which
HUBERT KaH is currently
signed, in a digitally re-mastered issue ( 533 760-2.)
The album yielded a number of Billboard
dance-chart hits to follow up on the success of 1986's
hit "Limousine". The new hits were "Welcome","Machine Gun"
,"So Many People"; and, to a lesser degree "It's Me, Cathy "
( Follow My Heart ) all released on CD-singles except for the last one that
was pressed on CD only in a promotional issue. The album was also issued in Japan like
all HUBERT KaH's
albums to that date, as the group was a success there.
Versatile and multi-faceted as Michael Cretu's talent manifested
itself, his collaborations reflected that versatility.
Sandra's sunny and summery sound of
"Into a Secret Land" was still resonating with the
1989 release of a re-mixed and extended
"We'll Be Together".
HUBERT KaH's
polished Hi-NRG gems were heard in clubs and some radio-stations with lyrics on
technology, world politics and military might.
A lesser-known collaboration of the same period was with the famous French diva
Sylvie Vartan.
Michael Cretu co-wrote - with Didier
Barbelivien - and produced the hits "C'est Fatal" and
"Ca Va De Soi". The songs appeared on the CD "Confidantes".
Later on, a version of "C'est Fatal" sung in Italian, that was never released
before, appeared by the title"E Fatale" alongside the French version on a
compilation by Sylvie Vartan
entitled "La Storia 1989 / 1993 La Chronique des Meilleurs Souvenirs de Sylvie Vartan" ( Phonogram
Philips 518688 2.) The inclusion of two versions of that song indicates that
Vartan specially liked it.
The song is a dramatic and powerful ballad both in tune and lyric.
Cretu's explosive drums magically blend with
Sylvie Vartan's
voice at a memorable moment of touching and tragic sound. The song is a noteworthy work
from Michael Cretu.

Michael Cretu ~ "…sometimes I ask Sandra's advice
because she is a totally undogmatic listener….she's got this incredible instinct where she can
tell me things that have always proved right." |
